Dr. Matthew Brengman is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeon and The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery as well as past-president of the Virginia Bariatric Society and current Chair of the ASMBS Insurance committee. Dr. Brengman is currently the Medical Director for the Parham Doctors Hospital Bariatric Program in Richmond, VA.

Dr Brengman is certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Brengman served with the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded a Bronze Medical for his actions in Iraq. He went on to cofound the laparoscopic bariatric program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center with Dr. Kim Marley.
In 2004, Dr Brengman moved to Richmond, VA, joining Dr. Gregory Schroder. He served as medical director of the Bon Secours Richmond Bariatric Program from December 2010-December 2012. Dr. Brengman performs all the bariatric procedures including Lap Band, gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, and the new non-surgical weight loss balloon. He also performs surgery for hernia, gastroparesis and other digestive disorders.
